The ICC Men`s Cricketer of the Year award is staying in Pakistan. Pakistan captain Babar Azam on January 26, 2023 bagged the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, following speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi in becoming only the second cricketer from the country to win the prestigious award given to the best player across all formats by the International Cricket Council.

The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali on Saturday 21 Jan, 2023, appointed Muhammad Azam Khan as the Caretaker Chief Minister of the Province.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi on 23 January 2022 announced the appointment of former Test cricketer Haroon Rasheed as the national men’s team chief selector. Rasheed, who represented Pakistan in 23 Tests and 12 ODIs, was a member of the Shahid Afridi-led interim selection committee appointed only for the home New Zealand ODI series. In a news conference in Lahore on Monday, PCB’s de-facto chief said: “Following speculations, I finally confirm the appointment of Haroon Rasheed as the new chief selector.”

The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) dissolved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on January 18, 2023. The dissolution was at the request of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mahmood Khan, who is a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The PTI is the same party that was led by Imran Khan, who was ousted as Prime Minister of Pakistan on April 10, 2022.
