The Astronaut and Oceanographer Kathy Sullivan have become the first woman to reach the deepest point in the earth. On 7 June she accompanied fellow scientist Victor Vescovo to visit the deepest known part of the ocean called Challenger Deep. Sullivan made history in 1984 with NASA, when she became the first U.S. woman to walk in space. Kathy Sullivan has become the only human being to ever experience both extremes.

Katerina Sakellaropoulou was recently elected as the first female President of Greece. The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis nominated Katerina Sakellaropoulou as the President. The 63-year-old Sakellaropoulou has worked as a top-level judge in Greece. The newly elected President is expected to hold the post for the next five years.

The US had recently launched airstrikes on the bases of the Iranian-backed Iraqi militia, Kataib Hezbollah in retaliation to the killing of a US civilian contractor in a rocket attack on an Iraqi military base.

The Private Foundation Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is set to become the largest funder of the World Health Organisation (WHO). This would be the first time a private foundation is to become the biggest funder of a United Nations Agency.

Like other parts of the globe, World Pharmacists Day was also observed in Pakistan on September 25, 2020, with the theme “Transforming global health“. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to pharmacies and the positive benefits they offer when it comes to health.
