Kathy Sullivan  The Astronaut and Oceanographer Kathy Sullivan have become the first woman to reach the deepest point in the earth. On 7 June she accompanied fellow scientist Victor Vescovo to visit the deepest known part of the ocean called Challenger Deep. Sullivan made history in 1984 with NASA, when she became the first U.S. woman to walk in space. Kathy Sullivan has become the only human being to ever experience both extremes.
