International and Regional Organisations

There can be no more than one judge of the same nationality on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at any one time. This is because Article 9 of the Statute of the ICJ states that: “No two Members of the Court may be nationals of the same State.” This rule is designed to ensure that the ICJ is impartial and independent. If there were more than one judge of the same nationality on the Court, it could be seen as a conflict of interest, as the judges might be more likely to favor their own country in their decisions.

The headquarters of the International Red Cross is situated in Geneva, Switzerland. Geneva is a city in Switzerland that is located on the shores of Lake Geneva. Geneva is a major center for international organizations, and is home to the headquarters of the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

SALT, NPT, and CTBT are all treaties that aim to reduce or eliminate nuclear weapons. NATO, on the other hand, is a military alliance that was formed to counter the threat of the Soviet Union. It is not a disarmament treaty.

There are 10 non-permanent members in the United Nations Security Council. They are elected by the United Nations General Assembly for two-year terms, and half of the seats are contested each year. To ensure geographical continuity, a certain number of members is allocated for each of the five UN regional groupings. The five permanent members of the Security Council are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They have veto power over any Security Council resolution. The President of the United Nations General Assembly is elected by the General Assembly for a one-year term. The presidency rotates annually among the five geographic groups: African, Asia-Pacific, Eastern European, Latin American and Caribbean, and Western European and other States.

Amnesty International is associated with protection of human rights. It is a global movement of more than 10 million people who take injustice personally. They are campaigning for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. Amnesty International was founded in 1961 by Peter Benenson, a British lawyer and journalist. The organization’s first campaign was to free the Portuguese prisoners of conscience who were imprisoned for their political beliefs. Since then, Amnesty International has campaigned on a wide range of human rights issues, including the death penalty, torture, arbitrary detention, and the right to freedom of expression. Amnesty International works in over 150 countries and territories around the world. They investigate human rights abuses, lobby governments and other powerful institutions, and campaign to change laws and practices. They also provide practical support to victims of human rights abuses, such as legal assistance and financial help.

The United Nations Day is celebrated every year on October 24. It is the day that the United Nations Charter was signed in 1945. The day is a time to reflect on the achievements of the United Nations and to reaffirm its commitment to peace, security, development, and human rights.
