Heaven Lake is a volcanic crater lake atop Paektu Mountain. It lies on the border between China and North Korea, and is roughly evenly divided between the two countries. The lake is called Ch’ŏnji or Cheonji in Korean, Tiānchí in Chinese, and Tamun omo or Tamun juce in Manchu. It is recognized as the highest volcanic lake in the world by the Shanghai Office of the Guinness World Records.
