Lake Manchar is the largest freshwater lake in Pakistan and is one of South Asia’s largest. Lake Manchar collects water from numerous small streams in the Kirthar Mountains, and then empties into the Indus River. Takht-i-Bahi is an ancient Buddhist monastic complex that is located in the Mardan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. The site is situated on a hilltop overlooking the valley of the Panjkora River, and it is considered one of the best-preserved Buddhist monasteries in the region. Takht-i-Bahi, which means “Throne of Origins” in Persian, was founded in the 1st century CE and served as a major center of Buddhist learning and monastic activity for more than 500 years. The complex consists of a number of stupas, chapels, and monastic cells, as well as a large assembly hall and other structures. Takht-i-Bahi was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 due to its outstanding cultural and historical significance.
