Burns caused by steam are much severe than those caused by boiling water because
Steam pierces through the pores of body quickly
Steam has latent heat
Steam is gas and engulfs the body quickly
Temperature of steam is higher
Steam produces more severe burns than boiling water even though both are at 100C because steam contains more heat, in the form of latent heat, than boiling water.

Which of the following has the highest frequency?
Cosmic rays
X-rays
Radio waves
Microwaves
The frequency of Gamma rays is the highest. Gamma rays are the highest energy EM radiation and typically have energies greater than 100 keV, frequencies greater than 1019 Hz, and wavelengths less than 10 picometers.

Which of the following colour of light deviates least through the prism?
Yellow
Green
Violet
Red
Red light suffers the least amount of deviation and violet the most. When a white light is made to pass through a prism, formation of a spectrum of seven colors occurs showing white light is a combination of seven separate colours.

A particle is thrown vertically upward. When it reaches the highest point, it has
A downward acceleration
An upward acceleration
A downward velocity
A horizontal velocity
When a particle is thrown vertically upwards in space, it will experience constant acceleration towards the ground (irrespective of the direction in which it is moving in), known as acceleration due to gravity. At the highest point, it has zero velocity but has downward acceleration equal to acceleration due to gravity.

Mud houses are cooler in summers and warmer in winters as compared to brick houses because
Mud is a good conductor
Mud is a bad conductor
Mud is a poor insulator
Evaporation of water causes cooling in summers and sunlight coming through holes causes warming in winters
Clay is a poor conductor of heat as compared to wood and bricks. Therefore, clay neither allows the external heat to enter the house in summer nor it allows the internal heat to escape out in winters. Hence, mud houses remain colder in summer and warmer in winter. mud or clay is poor conductor of electricity.

Which of the following metals is used for the manufacture of heating elements provided in electric iron ?
Nickel
Chromium
Nichrome
Tungsten
Nichrome is the most common domestic heating element and is found in many household products. Commonly, items such as toasters, hair dryers and heaters use Nichrome coils to pass electricity and give off heat. Nichrome is made of 80 percent nickel and 20 percent chromium, and its high melting point of 1,400 degrees Celsius. Nichrome is a non-magnetic alloy of nickel, chromium, and often iron, usually used as a resistance wire. Patented in 1905, it is the oldest documented form of resistance heating alloy. A common alloy is 80% nickel and 20% chromium, by mass, but there are many others to accommodate various applications. Due to its relatively high electrical resistivity and resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, it is widely used in electric heating elements, such as in hair dryers, electric ovens, soldering iron, toasters, and even electronic cigarettes.
