Nawab Abdul Latif Nawab Abdul Latif was a Bengali Muslim scholar, educationist, and social reformer. He was born in 1828 in Rajapur, Bengal (present-day Bangladesh). He was educated at the Presidency College in Kolkata. He was a member of the Indian Civil Service from 1854 to 1862. He resigned from the service in 1862 to devote himself to social reform and education. In 1863, he founded the Muhammadan Literary Society in Kolkata. The society was founded to promote the study of English and Western sciences among Muslims. The society also played a role in promoting social reform among Muslims. Nawab Abdul Latif died in 1892. He is considered one of the pioneers of modern education and social reform in India.
