Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96. Her funeral was held on September 19, 2022, at Westminster Abbey in London. The funeral was a state funeral, which is the highest level of funeral ceremony in the United Kingdom. The funeral was attended by members of the royal family, heads of state, and other dignitaries from around the world.

Kazakhstan’s capital is set to soon be renamed back from Nur-Sultan to Astana after the Parliament endorsed the draft law on constitutional amendments required to rename the capital on Sept. 16. The document now awaits President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s discretion. President Tokayev had agreed to restore the former name of the country’s capital just three years after he proposed to rename it in recognition of the special role of the outgoing president Nursultan Nazarbayev, one of his first moves upon taking office in March 2019 when Nazarbayev unexpectedly stepped down.

Queen Elizabeth II was buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle. The chapel is located in the grounds of Windsor Castle, which is one of the Queen’s favorite homes. The chapel was built in the 1960s and is named after Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI. The Queen’s coffin was interred in the chapel on September 19, 2022, following a funeral service at Westminster Abbey.

India takes over SCO rotating presidency, to host the SCO summit next year. The rotational presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has been handed over to India in Samarkand, Uzbekistan 16 September 2022. Delhi will hold the presidency of the grouping for a year until September 2023.

COP 27 is going to be held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

The 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 6 November – 18 November 2022. The incoming Egyptian COP27 Presidency has identified a range of topics focused on enhancing implementation and raising ambition on a broad range of issues related to climate change. Egypt has further designated several thematic days for focused discussions, including through side events, panel discussions, round tables, and other interactive formats to deliberate on and share with the wider audience. These include Finance Day, Adaptation and Agriculture Day, Water Day, Decarbonization Day, Science Day, Solution Day, Gender Day, Energy Day, Biodiversity Day, Youth and Future Generations Day, and Ace and Civil Society Day.

Every year on September 15, the International Day of Democracy is observed. The day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the significance of democracy and raise public understanding of democratic rights. According to Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, freedom of expression is a fundamental human right. The purpose of establishing the International Day of Democracy is to raise public awareness of the significance of protecting and actualizing human rights so that individuals might appreciate their importance. The International Day of Democracy was established in 2007 by a resolution passed by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Since the first celebration of the International Day of Democracy in 2008, several legislative events have been held worldwide. The theme for the International Day of Democracy is selected. This year’s theme is “the importance of media freedom to democracy, peace, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The 2022 SCO summit was the 22nd annual summit of heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation held between 15 and 16 September 2022 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan took over the chairmanship of the organization from Tajikistan on September 17, 2021.
