In recent news, the KP Planning and Development Department (PDD) is working on a mobile application to ensure the elimination of potholes in different areas of the province. This application is generally for the public which will allow them to report any pothole they might see. The application is named the ‘Pothole Fixer’ which is being developed by the GIS Cell at the PDD and will soon be launched in Peshawar as a pilot project. Moreover, this app is based on the department’s existing GIS platform which would link up on the basis of the real-time location of the users.

Architect of Pakistan`s nuclear programme Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan passed away here on October 10, 2021 morning.  He was accorded a state funeral at Faisal Mosque before his burial at the H-8 graveyard. He was 85. Dr. Khan was suffering from multiple ailments but his health deteriorated after he contracted coronavirus that doctors believed was the cause of his death.

Legendary comedian Umer Sharif passed away in Germany on Saturday, October 2, 2021, after battling serious health problems. He was 66.

Punjab government spokesman Fayyaz Chohan says the government has launched a `Women Safety App` to provide them a sense of security as they move out of their homes across the province. In a video message on August 29, 2021, Mr. Chohan said the Punjab police had launched the app to contact the police in case of emergency.

Microfinance pioneer from Pakistan — who developed an interest-free microfinance programme — was among Tuesday’s September 1winners of Asia’s equivalent to the Nobel Prize. Muhammad Amjad Saqib, 64, won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his “first-of-its-kind” interest- and collateral-free microfinance program that catalysed scores of poor households. Nearly two decades after its launch, Akhuwat — founded by Dr. Saqib — has grown into the nation’s largest microfinance institution, distributing the equivalent of $900 million and boasting an almost 100 per cent loan repayment rate, the award foundation said.

Former president of Pakistan and PML-N loyalist Mamnoon Hussain passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, after a prolonged illness, according to his family and party leaders. He was 80. Hussain served as the 12th President of Pakistan between September 2013 and September 2018. He had replaced Asif Ali Zardari and was succeeded by Arif Alvi.
