The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the suicide attack on the teachers that took place near the University of Karachi’s Confucius Institute on April 26, 2022. The attack killed three Chinese teachers and their Pakistani driver.

The death of three Chinese teachers and their Pakistani driver on Tuesday 26 April at the hands of a woman suicide bomber at the entrance to the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi in Pakistan has raised concerns that China-Pakistan academic collaboration is becoming a target for separatist resistance. The tutors who were killed have been identified as Huang Guiping, the founding director of the Confucius Institute (who was also the deputy director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of Sichuan Normal University), Ding Mufang, and Chen Sai. Another Chinese teacher, Wang Yuqing, was injured along with three local residents who were taken to a hospital in Karachi.

The suicide attack on the University of Karachi’s Confucius Institute was carried out by a woman identified as Shari Baloch. She was a 30-year-old science teacher who had a masters degree in Zoology. She was a member of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group that is fighting for independence for the Balochistan province of Pakistan.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari became the youngest Foreign Minister of Pakistan at the age of 33 on April 27, 2022. He is the son of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and former President Asif Ali Zardari. He is a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and has been a Member of the National Assembly since 2018.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has planned to establish the first-ever education city in South Waziristan, a tribal district in the northwest of the province. The project, which is expected to cost Rs2.5 billion, will be completed in three phases.

The opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had tabled the no-confidence motion against Khan, accusing him of economic mismanagement and misgovernance.

Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed was sentenced to 31 years in jail for terrorism. He was convicted in two separate cases of terror financing in February and April 2022. Saeed is the founder of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a militant group that is banned in Pakistan and India. LeT is accused of carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which killed 166 people, including six Americans.
