In 1973, the US agreed to withdraw its troops from South Vietnam and signed a treaty with the Soviet Union called SALT I, limiting the number of nuclear weapons for the first time.

The Eisenhower Doctrine, a country could request American economic assistance and/or aid from U.S. military forces if it was being threatened by armed aggression from another state. America created SEATO Treaty to control communism and its spread in South Asia and Central East Asia as it wanted to stop the highly populated China from expanding communism and creating influence on Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
